Summary
Some people say it is impossible for a
skinny, nerdy kid to hook up with a beautiful and stylish girl. Chuck
thought so as well, but his big mouth and all of his pride got him
into a situation that he could not turn away from. The nerdy Chuck
must accompany the beautiful Shannon to the biggest school dance of
the year, or pay up on a bet and face the ridicule of his
"adoring" friends. Chuck knows deep down inside that Shannon
would not walk with him in public, let alone be his date for a big
dance. With this knowledge, Chick knows he must "un-nerd"
himself and step into the world of "cool-dom" in order to
date his queen. He must accomplish his task while being pestered for
homework assignments by the abnormally big and menacing bully known as
Jack.
About the Author
Curtis Easley was born and
raised in Bronx, New York. He has always been one to do more listening
than talking, and in doing so he has found that everyday life is filled
with interesting stories. Currently, Curtis is working as a fifth grade
teacher in the Bronx, where he describes his job as inspiring.
"There are many stories that unfold before my eyes during the
course of a normal day. As a writer, I am very fortunate to be in such a
fertile place." Curtis also has a strong interest in filmmaking.
About the
Illustrator
Corey R. Easley is a sixth
grader who goes to school in the Bronx. He developed an interest in art
at the age of five when he was often found drawing sketches of his
favorite cartoon characters. This is when family members noticed that he
had considerable artistic talent. Corey lives at home with his mother,
stepfather, and younger siblings, Monet and Michael.
School House
Publishing is a company that
celebrates the experience of being an adolescent child. The
stories are not the only way that the adolescent experience is
celebrated. Most of the artwork for School
House is done by
children.
One will find humorous
stories, with valuable messages that parallel the experiences of
adolescent youth. School
House is daring
in the sense that the material produced will provide its reader with
positive messages, but may do so by abandoning conventional wisdom that
children are taught in school. Thus, School
House can be
considered the alternative answer, which in turn will promote critical
thinking in its readers.
The Coolest Nerd
is the first book to come out of School
House Publishing.
Written by Curtis Easley and illustrated by his nephew Corey R. Easley,
this book promises to be a favorite among adolescents.
