Photographs and colorful, original illustrations of other words beginning with the same letter encourage reading and help children understand the special connections their names have to the wider world. The text of each book is designed not only to teach single words, but also to build self-esteem, challenge children to count and enhance vocabulary development. The series is primarily for children from preschool to 8 years old, but even older children will enjoy these books.

Author

Larry Hayes of Carmel Valley, California, is the father of seven who has always loved to read to his children, and who gave him the inspiration to some day write a book for each of them.  The concept to focus on the first letters of their names was born in 1998.  Since then Larry has been in the process of writing, photographing, and designing this series of books, culminating in the publication of My Name Starts With A in 2002.

Artist

Airlie Anderson is originally from Carmel, California, but now resides in San Francisco.  She graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2000 with a degree in illustration. This is Airlie’s first published work, and a dream come true!
